| Adam Joseph Tolland was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio moving to Chicago in 2001 to attend Northwestern University. He received his degree in Film and Anthropology in 2005 while complimenting his studies with extensive coursework in visual art. He has studied and mentored under such notable Chicago artists as Ed Paschke, William Conger, Bill Cass, Mark Murphy, and John Himmelfarb. His work has been referred to as "a tightly woven and pseudo-political dreamscape that compiles wayfaring physical fragments of history into a new interactive narrative." Influenced strongly by the work and philosophy of the Black Mountain College artists alongside those he has studied with, Adam also draws heavily upon Surrealist literature and the Dubuffet idea of the innate primitive expression. |
